Valentine’s Day competition

Published by SarahP on 08 Feb 2010 at 3:40 pm under BookRabbit

This competition is now closed. 10 lucky winners this time!  Rebecca Ball, Beverley S, Laura Driver, Steve Hitchman, Barbara Newman, Zoe Ashpole, Bella Smyth, Lora McGinlay, Anne Cater and Catherine Miller– well done to all of you, we will contact you by email shortly.

A massive thanks to everyone for taking part, we are feeling a warm glow down here in the Warren! Don’t forget there’s still time to enter our The Last Station competition

****

Stupid Cupid not coming knocking yet? Fear not, we have transformed into Romance HQ down here in the burrow this week thanks to those love gods and goddesses at Pan Macmillan, who have given us 10 copies of the heart stopping book, Love Letters of Great Men and Women to give away.

From the private papers of Jane Austen and Mozart to those of Anne Boleyn and Nelson, Love Letters of Great Men and Women collates some of the most romantic letters in history. For some of these great men, love is a ‘delicious poison’ (William Congreve); for others, ‘a nice soft wife on a sofa with good fire, & books & music’ (Charles Darwin). Love can scorch like the heat of the sun (Henry VIII), or penetrate the depths of one’s heart like a cooling rain (Flaubert).

But what about the other side of the story? What of the secret hopes and lives of some of the greatest women in history? Taken together, these love letters show that perhaps little has changed over the last 2,000 years. Passion, jealousy, hope and longing are all represented here – as is the simple pleasure of sending a letter to, and receiving one from, the person you love most.

Love Letters of Great Men and Women

All you have to do for a chance to win is complete one or more of these 3 steps to Heaven…

1. Show us the love by joining BookRabbit – register here and enter the special registration code ‘VALENTINE’ in the box at the bottom of the registration page. If you’re already a BookRabbit member, move to point 2.

2. Share the love by blogging, tweeting (@thebookrabbit) or Facebooking about this competition (are you a fan yet btw? Facebook.com/bookrabbit) If you don’t have a blog, Twitter or Facebook account, move to point 3.

3. Confirm the love by leaving us a comment below and telling us if you’ve managed to do either or both of the above. If not, we still love you and your name will go in the hat.

The competition ends this Friday 12 February at noon when we’ll announce our 10 winners.

Good luck. Feel the love people. The Rabbits x

p.s. if you’re not lucky in love this time and don’t win a free copy we’ve just been told that Pan Macmillan are offering a 30 per cent discount on all Love Letters paperbacks and e-books for a limited time only. Get yourself over there and get loved up!
