A Change in Altitude

Some very nice editor types over at Little, Brown have given us 10 copies of Anita Shreve’s new book A Change in Altitude to give away to you lucky little BookRabbiters. Yes, you heard us right – 10. How generous is that? Well, we can tell you (having spoken to lots and lots of these editor types) it’s really rather generous. So smile a lot and bow at the screen and clap your hands, and maybe even do a little jig. Ha ha, we can seeeeee you!

Here’s the scoop on Anita Shreve’s gripping new novel…

Margaret and Patrick, married just a few months, set off on a great adventure – a year living in Kenya. While Patrick practices medicine, Margaret works as a photojournalist, capturing a dizzying and sometimes dangerous city on film.
When a British couple invites the newlyweds on a climbing expedition to the summit of Mount Kenya, they eagerly agree. But during their arduous ascent a horrific accident occurs. In its aftermath, Margaret struggles to understand what happened on the mountain and how it has transformed her and her marriage, perhaps for ever. With stunning language and striking emotional intensity, A Change in Altitude illuminates the irrevocable impact of tragedy and the elusive nature of forgiveness.

I love Anita Shreve’s books and I think my favourite is ‘Sea Glass’. It is striking, thought-provoking and incredibly emotional. Like all her books it is a cracking good yarn!

I love Anita Shreve’s books. I love the way she incorporates historical fiction, feminism, and water in to all of her novels. My favourite is “Strange Fits of Passion”. My virgin Shreve novel was “The Pilot’s Wife” which made me addicted!

Well, there’s a turn up – having gone to check the link to look at the back list and the little bits of blurb, I am fairly certain, despite my earlier protestations, that I have in fact read Resistance. I don’t recognise the book cover and I certainly don’t own a copy but I am sure from the brief synopsis that I have read it. So that would have to be my favourite and I do remember enjoying it!

When I thought I had not read any Anita Shreve, it was Sarah’s review of the new release A Change in Altitude that piqued my interest and so that would be the one I would most like to read.

I really hate to admit this but I haven’t yet read any of Anita Shreve’s novels. However, if I am lucky enough to win 1 of her books in this giveaway then I wont feel so bad. I would be very interested in reading her novel “All He Ever Wanted”.

Please enter me in this wonderful giveaway. Thank you.

I read Testimony by Anita Shreve a few months ago and loved it. So incredibly well-written, so heartbreaking. I have also read another book by her, A Wedding in December, which wasn’t too bad, but I didn’t really like it that much.

I would like to read Light on Snow and Where or When, which both look very interesting. And A Change in Altitude, of course!

Not that it has much to do with Anita Shreve’s writing, but I also love the covers for all her books. They’re all so very pretty.

Good luck to everyone for a chance to win their copy of A Change in Altitude!

I’ve never actually read any of Anita Shreves previous novels but looking through the collection I would probably opt for ‘All He Ever Wanted’, the synopsis reminds me of my own failed marriage!

I bought ‘A Wedding in December’ as a hen-night gift for my friend who surprisingly was getting married in December! Luckily, she finished it before the big day, as she said it was so good she would have taken it on her honeymoon! I eventually read it too and wow it was powerfully engrossing.

I have enjoyed several of Anita’s books. She is so adept at showing different points of view of the same event. I am currently reading “Testimony” and am having a hard time getting anything else done while reading it. So very much like her other books I have enjoyed, Sea Glass for example, she pulls you in and makes you want to know what happens next and how it affects these characters you have become invested in.

It’s difficult to pick just one – but if I must I will say Fortune’s Rocks.

I always note Anita Shreve as one of my favourite authors. I love all her books and think I’ve read them all, but my favourite is probably The Pilot’s Wife. I think the first description of the pilot’s wife getting woken through the night, knowing it’s bad news, but putting it off…it’s amazing and inspiring that someone is that good! Also love Fortune’s Rocks and everything else!

    The pilot’s wife
bought it for a friend a while ago just before I found out the her hubby (a pilot) was having an affair with a stewardess.
    I kept the book!

So excited about your, “A Change in Altitude” give away. Anita Shreve is my all time favorite author and this is the only book of hers I haven’t read yet. Thank you for your give away!

Anita Shreve is my favorite contemporary author. I love how she combines historical fact with fiction, blends the past with the present. She uses psychology masterfully in her relationships. Her writing style is as alluring as her characters– pulling one along. Favorites are Sea Glass, Weight of Water and The Pilot’s Wife.

I ahven’t read any of Anita Shreve’s books, just looked at her author profile and backlist and can’t decide, I like the sound of them all. Think I have to go shopping!

The Pilot’s Wife is my favorite Anita Shreve book. It was the first book of hers that I read, and I was so impressed with how profound, insightful, and engrossing it was. I was shocked by how the story progressed, and for me raised the issue of the potential difference between reality and one’s perception of it, serving almost as a warning. Although somewhat depressing, the book ends on an optimistic note, and I also found the topic area fascinating.

I haven’t read any of Anita Shreve’s books, but having looked over the backlist am most interested in reading Where or When. Thanks for your consideration.

I have only read one of her books, The Pilot’s Wife and loved it! Gripping! Can’t wait to read more.
