What an amazing book. This was, by far, much more than your run of the mill crime novel. Although quite a complex read it had me gripped throughout its 600 odd pages. I felt it really gathered speed in the latter third of the novel as the intricate plot unravelled. The depiction of the duplicity of the American intelligence agencies was both frightening and completely believable and makes you re-assess all those notorious conspiracy plots you read about! I had heard a great deal of good things about R.J. Ellory's previous novel (mainly thanks to Richard and Judy's Book Club of course!) but had not got round to reading it and he has far exceeded my expectations.
