Book reviews for - The Affinity Bridge

The Avengers meet Sherlock Holmes! It may have been too many late nights watching reruns on BBC4 but I certainly can see similarities in the characterisations in this hybrid Victorian London fantasy world populated by bizarre glowing policeman, terrifying infected 'Zombie' plagues and magnificent machines of Zeppelins and clockwork robots. Investigating these strange happenings is Sir Maurice Newbury ( a man with drug fuelled dark dabbles in black magic and his own 'Mrs Hudson' landlady) an agent for an alternate Queen Victoria still alive ten months after our real one thanks to a wheelchair with its own lungs!
I found this a refreshing read mixing known Victorian London aspects - whitechapel murders, fogged cobbled streets and horse drawn cabs with more modern elements injected - the airships and steam trains running through the streets.
