by Oliver White on Nov 18, 2008 4:10:21 PM Well, calling all military historians amongst you anyway... Since setting up our bookrabbit calendar system, where we can add famous battles and such, I found that when one did a search for 'Calendar of Famous Battles' on Google, Bookrabbit came up very near the top ! Now we don't have many entries in the calendar for famous battles at the moment, but I realised that for us to come that high, meant that there really isn't anything like that out there, ie Famous Battles listed in a calendar format, sure there are wiki's and encyclopedia / dictionaries of famous battles etc but if I wanted to find out exactly what battles occurred today or tomorrow, it was not so straight forward. So... I am inviting the military historians amongst you to join bookrabbit on this mini project of compiling a definitive calendar of famous battles, pick a period if you like or even add a few random entries. Start adding entries now |

Umm. We've both added Trafalgar. This strikes me as a potential issue.

by Oliver White on Nov 19, 2008 9:23:59 AM Is there a limit (era, time or duration) to the number of battles i can happily notify? Nope. This will be an ongoing project and the calendar allows for dates in AD or BC, for battles that last longer than a day I would recommend using the start date and in the battle description mention the duration. My copy of the Encyclopedia of military history alone has near 10,000 entries up to 1945, I'm not going to systematically go through it, it would take me forever but I will dip into now and then and cover a particualr war / conflict / theatre. |
