by Diane Rendalls on Nov 26, 2008 6:36:44 PM I love cover art, especially when the art work relates to the whole book not just a small part of the book. Take the top left book, the art work is wonderful and so fitting to the book. |

I agree, the art on a book cover can really tell you a lot about the story and it's what makes me want to pick a book up off the shelf. I like Elizabeth Chadwick's covers, even if they are a bit mills & boon-ish they're still pretty and i love the cover on East of the Sun.

by Lesleyann Morgan on Nov 27, 2008 2:13:28 PM Fear & Longing has a fabulous cover taken from a painting by Gabriella Kardos called Falling Flowers. The cover is so dramatic it is selling the book as well as the contents do. |

I bought a book called "The Book of Lost Things" over the summer, purely because I liked the cover & was intrigued by the title. This is never usually my reason for choosing a book, although on the occasions where it has been (Crimson Petal & the White and The Red Tent) it's also worked out well. Luckily the book was pretty good & the artwork and the title reflected the mood and atmosphere of the story really well. I still love the cover & it inspired the redecoration of my new bedroom - now if I can just keep a steady enough hand to paint in some spikey tree limbs.....

Some times I just go in to bookshops to admire the covers of books. The art work helps to convey ideas and colours that I had never thought of before. Also great for that 'Artist' Block that happens sometimes!!

Would I be out of line for saying, "never judge a book by it's cover"

And although it doesn't qualify because it isn't a book I have to own up to the CD "Resist" by Kosheen, I even tracked down all the singles on amazon and bought them just for the cover artwork. |

No your not out of line, it is very true. I don't buy my books because of the cover art but only if the story outline intrests me . I have found alot of interesting art through cover art.

by Scarlet Anderson on Dec 7, 2008 2:27:33 PM My daughters never seem to pay much attention to book covers unless they are pink! However just bought a couple of books for my two youngest daughters by Hannah Frank. The front covers are really bold and beautiful and the illustrations inside are so pretty. I was a child in the 1970's and the front covers and illustrations in these books have a real vintage hippie feel. Also all the stories have a old-fashioned approach with a modern twist. Check them out in Childrens Books. I loved them as much as the girls and have already bought some for Xmas pressies! |

by Richard Swann on Dec 7, 2008 10:20:10 PM Covers should draw you in for a closer look when you see them. I have sometimes been drawn to look at a book by the use of an interesting font alone- read the synopsis then bought it and enjoyed it. " so many books so little time". A good book cover adds to the "feel" of reading a book. I can think of many good covers on bilge-water books.. and conversely some excellent books with " can't be bothered" covers. |
