Brain Lock Book

I always felt like a bit of a weirdo, due to my OCD and always attempted to stay secluded. My friends urged me to read this book and I could not be more grateful to them for turning me to this miracle! The first order of motion was for me to change my own perspective of my condition. For years, I blame myself, but Jeffrey made me realize it was my disease, not me.

Once I changed my outlook on my OCD, the four-step approach to gradually using one's own mind to beat the illness was shockingly effective! I am now a different person! I have my OCD mostly under control, regained the confidence to go out more often and no longer blame myself for the aftermath of the disease, but just follow the procedures in the book. I am a much happier man now!

I think my favorite part of this book was how Jeffrey uses actual experiences from patients who have gone through similar situations. It helps to understand the journey a person suffering from OCD goes through. His unique 4 step approach- Re-label, Reattribute, Refocus and Revalue is a real life changer. The book is a great aid- it tells you exactly how each step is modifying your mind to take over the disease and control it.

You feel in control and that is a powerful feeling for someone who, for a long time, has been dealing with compulsions, out of their control. This book was a breath of life for me. Made me realize I too, could get better rather than having to rely on medication and therapy for the rest of my life.

I will admit, I was on the verge of giving up. My OCD was taking over my life. Drugs and therapy were a constant in my life and though it didn't completely eradicate them, it was "being managed', to put it loosely.

A friend of mine suggested this book and my life changed that day. I started reading about other people out there, just like me, suffering with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It talked about their path, the problems they faced, how the therapy and pills affected them, and then how this wonderful 4 point plan changed them. It planted that seed of hope I needed at that point in my life. I started working on it.

And slowly but surely, I conquered it! I am almost completely in control of my condition and I don't have panic attacks if I don't have my medication.

My sister suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and I was so tired of watching her struggle with her life. She would break down, ever so often because it always got the better of her. With her regular episodes, therapy and the drugs, she was being torn apart.

I wanted so badly to help her but I couldn't understand what she as going through. Until this book, that is. It was highly recommended on the support group chat rooms and I thought I would give it a whirl. The author helps us relate with each of the former patients and you find yourself empathizing with their situation.

I knew my sister was not in a position to read it for herself, so instead, I helped her through the steps. It brought us so much closer and she is well on her way to kicking her OCD goodbye! I would highly suggest this book to just about anyone willing to learn about OCD.

I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder a couple years ago and I was doing OK, up until my therapist moved away.

The anxiety started to hit again and I was starting to spiral. Before she moved, she referred me to another therapist- who specializes in treating OCD. He gave me this book and asked me to read it. One of the first things the book explains is how OCD is NOT a psychological disorder, but a physiological one, really made me look at myself differently. I started paying more attention to myself and my condition. The 4 simple rules in this book are my new mantra for life. It's like rewiring your brain and allowing yourself to take charge of your condition.

I felt so empowered but it! I am forever grateful to my new therapist and Mr. Jeffrey Shwartz for this amazing take on beating this disease! It changed who I was and I couldn't be happier!

My son is 12 years old and started showing symptoms of OCD about a year ago. I was aware of the condition because I've seen it before in the family. We took him to a specialist, who suggested this book. Obviously, my wife and I were inclined to take the book upon ourselves since he was just a little boy and we weren't sure he could handle the technical aspects of his illness.

Much to our surprise, this book is written in a very easy to understand language and my son got really into it also! We worked the four-step program mentioned in the book and although it took some time, we worked through all the symptoms and now, our son is back to his normal self! His outlook on life has also changed drastically and if ever, he is to suffer from OCD like symptoms again, or know someone who portrays the signs, he is now well equipped to deal with it and beat the illness!

This book helped me in three ways-

1. "it's not me- it's the OCD." I repeated this line over and over again until I truly believed it. 2. It reminded me that I was not alone on this journey. the stories of recovery (in varying degrees), gives you the hope you may have lost.

3. The simple four-step process is made simple and encouraging! Here I am, seven months later, so much more in control of myself. It gave me back the quality of life I thought I had lost.
